Last week, I noticed that our '55 TR2's handling had gotten even worse than usual, arriving at a level below what I would consider "safe".
So this weekend, I dug out an unused front suspension rebuild kit and went out to the car
to change out all the bushings ( yet again! ).
The obvious problem was not in the suspension itself, but in the steering linkage. The "Silentblok" that connects the steering box arm to the linkage was totally perished. The
other one - at the idler arm - was OK, but the idler arm itself had a bit of up & down play.
So I ordered a pair of new Silentbloks, a new idler arm, and a new idler arm socket from Moss.
It's not the first time that silentblok has failed: British rubber, lots of oil, grease, Blech!
Does anybody know of an uprated or upgraded part to replace the silentblok bushings? I guess they DO have to be rubber - I remember reading someplace that the front wheels have zero caster, so the tension in the rubber is the only thing making the steering self-centering.
