signal flasher

quick question.

My turn signal flasher started acting up (had to give it a tap to make it work last night) will any flasher unit work or do I have to order a specific type ? I would assume that anyone would work but we all know what assuming does...

Thanks in advance

My car is a '79. I replaced the flasher with a standard two prong flasher from my corner parts store. It worked great for about a month, then it died. I cleaned all the contacts in my blinker circuits then plugged the old lucas unit that came with my car back in and it has been working great ever since. (well, I have had to re-clean the contacts one or twice, but you get the idea).

I've had no problem with a generic replacement.

perfect !
Thanks JP, just wanted to be sure.

And for you original fanatics, you can take a standard 3 prong flasher, unroll the lip, put the guys inside your original Lucas flasher can and re-roll the lip.
Lucas Indian made replacement flasher $30 (so it's not really original anyway)
Tung-sol or modern similar $5.

well, and FWIW, the Lucas Indian made that I did buy, last about a week.

The last Lucas flasher I bought also lasted only a short while. I gave up on originality and now use the "electronic" Tridon units (EL13 for 3-prong, EL12 for 2-prong). I have not had to replace the Tridon flashers yet after several years of use.

An advantage (or disadvantage... depending on how you look at it) of the electronic flashers is that they have a constant flash rate regardless of bulb Wattage and whether or not a bulb has burned out.
