DC,
When I got glazing rubber from my local glass shop, it looked like nothing more than wide, black, friction tape. It worked very well on my BN2 windshield. Wetting the tape with kerosene, after it is placed on the glass, makes it very sticky but slippery & things go together much more easily. The kerosene evaporates in a short time. Faster than the "factory motor oil".
BTW, friction tape wrapped on & then wetted with gasoline makes a very good adhesive for the grips on the end of motorcycle handlebars also.
