Restoring a 1962 Tri-Carb BN7 MkII 2-Seater #15111 and trying to determine when the change was made from side to center shifters. Have been searching the web for some difinitive answers but nothing yet.

I would post a pic, but don't see how?

Thx,
Bill

Bill,

According to "Original Austin Healey", the center shift was first installed in BN7/16039 on November of 1961.

Hope this helps,

Many thanks, do you consider "Original Austin Healey" as the best source for this type of data?

All the best,
Bill

From the "full screen reply" page, choose "File Manager"

Browse for a picture on your computer__as long as it's under 100KB__click "add files" then "done adding files"

It's ALL THERE, just read it and follow

I usually "hot link" all my pictures, but I did this one via BCF software right out of my hard drive, just for you!

Bill,

It is one of the definitive sources of Healey production information and I consider it quite accurate. I believe others feel the same but I will let them comment.

Well, tie me to a squirrel, I did all that and it just returned a blank page. I am a better mechanic than a poster.

... Got it!
Pretty good job! Almost there and with a little more practice you'll be able to have the whole car in the pic with the door! LOL

Bill,
Great looking car. I also have a BN7 Tri Carb. Mine was built june 61 but is titled a 62 and is a side shift. Yours was built August 61 also a side shift. I also use the Orginal Austin Healey restoration guide by Anders Ditley Clausager. And another very good guide I use is Authentic Restoration Guide by Gary Anderson and Roger Moment. These should still be avaiable, I purchased them from Moss Motors about 9 years ago and they were very helpful in even the small details of the restoration.
Best regards
Bob G

15880 was the cutoff for BT7s as another data point. I guess they produced 159 BT7s before going back to the BN7 or they installed the centers earlier on the BT7s, giving the BN7s the remaining side shifts.

These are available for >$200 on eBay, but I understand you get the same info in the Healey Concours Guide for way less $$.

Hi Randy, aren't you afraid of them "Gators" jumping into your Healey down there??
My wife is, but until I see one reaching for the door handle, I'm good...

Our lot has a good sized pond that wraps around two (2) sides of it, and while I haven't seen them often, I've spotted a lone alligator in there a couple of times...

Hey Randy,
If ya got one, ya got more than one in that pond ! We have some small lagoons down here and have one 10 foot male and a 8 foot female but many smaller ones. If you leave them alone and don't feed them no problems. Unless of course you have a small dog which would be a snack for a big gator. Ours will leave the fresh water lagoons and head to the ocean to clean off or if they get wounded, so every once in awhile you see one crossing the road.
Regards,
Mike
