Spitfire Side lights

Assembling my 1975 Spitfire 1500. The car is a right hand drive, Imported from Australia.
My question is as follows:

As I am wiring the tail lights headlights parking and indicator lights, I have reached a point where I need to connect my side lights. When I got the car the side lights were on the car but not connected. I live in California and I would like to know if the side lights should be connected as side lights with the headlights and parking lights? Or should they be connected with the turn signal lights?

if anyone can clear that up for me it would be great.

The US-spec schematic I have shows them as marker lights, wired into the taillight circuit (red wire).

But since it's RHD anyway, I'd say you can wire them however you like. You could probably even go with coming on with the tail lights but also flashing with the turn signals if you like. Not many folks around here that will know for sure whether they were wired that way in Oz or not.

Probably need to figure out a motorized flasher replacement if you hook up side marker lamps to your existing turn signals.
Otherwise your "blink" spec will be out-of-spec.
