TR2/3/3A Side curtains for TR3

Anyone know where to find side curtains for a TR3?

I see them on ebay on a regular basis. Also if you look up TR3 parts on the net you will find used parts suppliers and you may be able to find them at one of those spots.

Good luck, Tinkerman

/bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/iagree.gif What Tinkerman said. Your best bet is to look for a set of factory curtains that need restoring.

Two things you probably already know, but just in case: There are two types of mounting for these - wedges that are held in place by thumb screws for TR2's and 3', and the more positive Dzus locking for the 3A's and B's. Also, stay away from the aftermarket curtains. Easy to spot: aluminum frames with rubber flaps around the outside of the window portion.

Good luck on the hunt!

Ah yes, the bygone days when (cheesy) TR3 sidecurtains were available thru the JCWhitney catalog.

I got an original-style set from The Roadster Factory years ago and have been quite satisified with the look & fit.

For quite a while (mostly in England) the repros had the support for the wedges or the Dzus attachments where the bends were not right. The sidecurtains fit well but the top stuck out about 2", so if it rained, the rain came straight down into the car because you couldn't tuck the top of the sidecurtain in under the flap along the top of the door on the soft-top.

I believe pretty much anything will have to be bent/adjusted to fit your car. TRF used to suggest you do this before sending them the frames to rebuild, to reduce chances of damaging the new covering during the adjustment process.

BTW, the change from wedge to Dzus button did not happen exactly at the TR3/A changeover. Early 3As also had wedge mounts.

Since I'm not a purist, and I have a very nice set of Dzus-mount curtains, I'll probably convert TS13571L. Or not, since I never use them. TS39781LO hasn't had mounts for 15 years or more; just never got motivated to put them on /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif
Now you know why the sidecurtains are in such good shape (assuming the mice haven't gotten to them).
