We got the bah-boom-BOOM-BOOM!! on Discovery's "braking" maneuver. Absolutely spine tingling. Was hoping to see some evidence (vapor trace, the "splash" of condensation, etc) but had clouds between us. :frown:

It was/is (another) real affirmation of the amazing things humans are capable of.

What a shame the fate of such a machine is to become a static museum display.

Two nights ago, not too long after nightfall, I saw what appeared to be a very bright star move from west- northwest toward the south. When about midway across the heavens it changed into a small red dot and then disappeared entirely. Am I correct in assuming that I've had the good fortune to view the shuttle and space station on one of their last co-joined orbits? --elrey

The only Shuttle Boom I've ever heard was unfortunately the sound of Columbia breaking up as it flew over New Mexico and eventually came apart and spread debris over north Texas and Louisianna.
