I've just decided to enter my TR6 into a local car show... this will be my first time showing at a "judged show".
The show is primarily for American muscle, street rods, and antiques cars, however there will be a small contingent of British cars.
So my questions are what do I need to do while at the show to make a good impression on the judges or ballot box? Of course the car will be clean and shiny inside and out... what else do I need to do?
Your suggestions welcome.

Documentation helps - posters, performance charts, pictures of the restoration. "Mascots", like model cars, extra parts, tool kit, picnic basket, etc., etc. also add to the display. Chat with the folks who come by; good opportunity to educact people about British cars, as well.

Most of all, have fun and don't get caught up too much in competing; kinda spoils the fun!

Quickly dropping a small block Chevy in will impress the muscle car people.

A young woman in a bikini showing the car can't hurt.

Kidding aside (or was I?), just do what you were going to do and remember not to get your feelings hurt. Remember, clean,clean,clean...and good presentation.

Seriously, all good suggestions. I have a ton of photo's that I will get into a binder to display with the car (thanks Mickey!)

Bill- I was thinking of trying this but swmbo might have different thoughts on the matter :laugh:

Even though you're entering a "local" show, they may be following scoring rules taken from national organizations such as the AACA. You might want to ask in advance so you don't lose points needlessly (fire extinguisher not displayed correctly, top down instead of up, period incorrect accessories). Be with your vehicle when it's its turn to be judged - smile but don't say anything unless the judges come up with a question.
 
In most car shows, cars are judged by the viewing crowd, other car owners and correctness is rarely considered. They judge mostly by what appeals to their eye, cleanliness, chrome, and things that make the car like something they would want setting in their garage. Now concourse judging is a whole other ball game, as the car is judged by professional judges who have a list to go by. In that case, point deductions are for each infraction that isn't factory and their are usually 3 judges with different sheets to mark their findings, on your car. It's tough to win in that category. Most of those cars look better than when they came off the line. PJ

This isn't a concours show but one that offers some prizes, trophies, etc. The only show I've been to is an all British show that is purely for show and no judging at all.
It will (and is!) clean and polished. I also intend to take Mickey's good advice and get a photo album together showing the total rebuild.

In our part of Pennsylvania, a judged show is indeed a judged show - but certainly not necessarily a concours judged event - and that even applies to most of the Fall Hershey meet. You're making it sound as if you may be entering a popular vote event or a "wash and show". In that case you're probably better off bringing a skirt (as has been mentioned) or a bunch of friends to pad the ballot.

This is no-where close to what the Hershey meet is.... it's a local show to raise some $ for community service.

I've heard this Long Park show's a good one. From my experience showing at Lancaster's "Artistry in Motion" car show, I think you'll probably be surprised how good and correct the judging is in our area. My reference to the Hershey fall meet was only to say even though most of it is not concours, the judging is still taken quite seriously.

If we can sneak away from the races for a little while on Saturday (after our last run), we're going to try to see the Schenley Park car show at the PVGP.
Apparently the show takes over a large portion of the golf course.
