So, let's keep this thread "G" rated, despite the title /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

For all of you "non-purists", what are some cool custom items you've incorporated into your LBC? Frenched license plates, shaved handles, custom interior things, etc /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif

Harley outside rear view mirrors.

See the link.

Opened up wheelwells in rear in 74 to fit custom rims and tires. Added small flares at the same time.

Daytime running lamp circuit... Essential for small cars (esp dark ones)

Rounded, flared rear wheels wells, new Mini headlights Frenched into glass fenders, custom MGC fiberglass hood with GT6 scoop, side trim line completely removed & smoother. That what you mean?

Cut a 1" plate on my waterjet for a friend that wants to install a Triumph trans to his TC bell housing to make it a 5 speed with OD.

Tony, I looked on the site in your sig...do you have pics of that scoop? I'd be interested in doing some type of scoop on mine as well.

EFI would be great. I've been reading the links from the other thread. NOt sure if the cost/benefit is good enough for me.

Hmmm, have to check out the Harley mirrors. Maybe I can find something good to use on mine. I have no mirrors.

The Harley mirrors were $13 each right and left. Excellent quality, ordered on line.

Looks different since photo was taken:

I have a couple of electronics projects to try to improve the reliability of the bugeye. The first is an electronic tachometer, inspired by my problems with the mechanical tach. At this point, the tach works pretty well, but I haven't installed it permanently yet. The second is an ammeter, which senses the batter charge/discharge current with a hall-effect sensor instead of the more common series resistor. This way, you don't have to drop the battery voltage several tenths of a volt just to sense the current. I also have some plans for an electronic voltage regulator, which (I hope!) should keep the battery in a better state of charge. I know, all this is sacrilege, but I'm having a blast.

I'm currently writing up the tach project. Once it's done, I'll make all the info available to those of you who like to experiment with electronic stuff.

Where did you find the smoke gauge? I have been looking for it on Ebay and keep missing the auctions.

Smoke gage went the other week for about 80 bucks I think. Didn't Doc get it?

No Smoke Gauge (No need...I have a Mitsu alternator /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif )

Weird (but lightweight!) tail lights. Less prone to breaking during high-speed, close-quarter pursuit.

Cobbled-up "Super Sprite" front fenders (I may put them on for some vintage events in '07.

About a zillion event stickers including one from flagging at Bridgehampton around '71, plus lots of other racey stuff.

Ah, the elusive smoke gauge. 3 in the whole world, but only 2 make real smoke. And I know all 3 owners. 1 in PA, 1 in MD, and me in NJ. the one in PA has yet to be installed.
Biff's makes smoke right in the gauge, mine makes smoke come out from behind the dash.

Aer,
Close to start dropping you some PM's! I have a 71 Midget, 2 engines 2 trans, 3 rears and 3 cars worth of parts to try and make a car that'll go around the track. Talked with a friend of mine that is interested too. Wish you were a bit closer. Dig that dash. Love to see some engine shots.

There not enough space here for me to list it all, I would kill the server /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

My bugeye has electronic tach, vaccuum guage, Harley "flow-thru" muffler, exhaust header , 1 wire alternator w/internal regulator & neg. grnd. elec.s, VW Scirrocco alum radiator, Corvette seats, fiberglass tilt bonnet, 1275cc w/ribcase trans. All original rust!
The 69 was purchased with a Nissan 90 engine and 5 sp. trans. No floors, crude exhaust, butchered body work and plenty of rust as well. She sits and waits patiently under a tarp in the back yard for an ambitious child to come home from the service and work on her!
