TR4/4A Should I Cut the Lower Windshield Gasket

I'm having trouble fitting my new lower windshield gasket. I see that the prior owner cut his to fit--or apparently so. See picture below. Should I cut mine for a better fit? Is that the standard routine for this?

I do not recall having to cut it - but that was 17 years ago and I have forgotten a few things. May also vary from one part source to another.

Is the hole too tight or is it incorrectly located or what?

Yes it’s really tight and the windshield seems wider there. Maybe due to the curve. This is my third windshield installation, and I’ve had trouble with the gasket at that location each time. It’s making me think that cutting in that location is probably necessary. I’ll risk it.

PS I still feel bad about that dash I over- sanded, and I’ll call you to bring it over soon. After all the help you’ve given me over the years, the least I can do in gratitude is bring over parts that I’ve destroyed 😀
