Shop Time Disco II Transmission Swap?

I understand it's 7 hours out and in for the transfer case alone. So tranny should be somewhere around there. Call nearest dealer, they should give you the book rate on time.

Sounds like the dealer. Console, exhaust, cross-members, transfer case and tranny, then re-assemble. Find an independent shop and see if they are up to the challenge. Offer a base price, just so they can see if they want to do more. 17 hrs. X $100+ dealer = $1700+. 17 hrs. X $55-$75 independent= $950 - $1300.

I am getting 17 at $75.... I just cant see what takes that much time. I replaced one in a Range Rover Clasic in about 4 one time...

Newer vehicle, different assembly methods. More to move in the newer model, electrics, interior, etc. Plastic parts more costly too! The older vehicles were made so 90% of the world could dismantle and repair off-road and continue. The newer ones I believe are dealer $ insured.

Hi, according to autodata, remove and install gearbox is 5 hours auto(4.05 manual)for a 4 litre,if they are just changing the gearbox , time to remove and install transfer box will have to be added say approx 1+ hours ,17 hours does seem a bit steep however if they are not an agent allowing for not being used to doing them allow 8-9 hours also you could buy a manual online from ALLDATA and it gives the recommended times there aswell.
