This may sound like a weird question, do the rear shocks need to be bled? I bought a set of rear shocks and the driver side seems to move to freely. Is there a certain shock oil or after market oil I can use to fill it up? Is there a procedure to bleed these?

Filling, then working them will bleed any air out. If they are full, and still loose or not working, they might need to be rebuilt like Joe suggested.
There are oils available. I use penrite shock oil only because I bought a quart of it some time ago and have not even begun to finish it up.
 
If in doubt, send 'em off to Peter the Parts Pimp. (nosimports.com). That way, when you get 'em back you NEVER have to do anything to them again except put 'em on the car. That's it. Yer Done! Guaranteed for as long as HE lives

As Bryan says, I emptied & re-filled mine recently, just because I didn't know what the previous owner had done. 20W motorbike fork oil is the same stuff.
You'll find it it a FAT Harley shop, (too think for modern bikes).
 
I agree, send them off to Peter C. In fact call him up, order shocks, they will show up in a box a few days later, take the old ones off, put back in the original box, and UPS will pick up and core charge is credited to your charge card. As simple as that and you will not believe the difference in how your Spridget will drive and handle. NFI, just a very satisfied customer,

Peter would probably be happy to tell you what sort of oil to use, and how high to fill them. (You need to leave some room for heat expansion, or something like that...)

He did a great presentation on the ins & outs of these shocks at the Spridget 50th at LotO last year. How they work, why they fail, & how he rebuilds them. (There IS a video of this out there somewhere... I just can't find it right now...)

But I'd guess that IF they are low on oil, OR full & still not working, it is time for a rebuild. Peter is the ONLY reliable source. Ask anyone on here who has bought shocks from him & you will get a SOLID recommendation!

Price is VERY reasonable too!

I agree about Peter. Also, if you are buying them someplace else, it's a good chance they're rebuilts by Peter through a secondhand source.
