Just received a pair of rebuilt front shocks for my BJ8 from one of the recommended rebuilders. I notice that the resistence of one shock, through its full motion is significantly less than the other. Does this make any difference? The resistence of the ones I just took off the car also are significantly different from each other. I am changing them to see if it helps reduce a little remaining scuttle shake at 55mph, although new wheels and tires have been a great improvement.

Re: Shocks ??

They should feel about the same.
Be sure they are full of oil (the correct shock oil) and cycle them up and down a number times to make sure the oil has been pumped into the pistons. If they are still not "even", I'd send them back. A good outfit should stand behind it's work and provide you with a rapid response.
Here on the east coast of the USA, there is a hyraulic shock re-builder that is notoriously poor in terms of rebuilding...two of my friends who repair Brit-cars for a living, will not buy from this outfit: I won't either.
Basil would prefer that we not mention the actual names of companies that we are critisizing (and I agree with this policy)....let's just say that the company has a "fruity" name and leave it at that.

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/iagree.gif I tried two (2) sets for an MGB and wound up sending both sets back. They were worse than the set I removed from the car (unfortunately lost as cores). In the end, Victoria British gave me a brand new pair of (front) shocks.
