Shock Absorber Questions

I'm in the process of replacing my rear shockies with uprated lever arms, I'm getting just the uprated springs for my left hand shocks and complete uprated new units on the right side, where the seals have blown - and have a couple of quick questions:

1) Can anyone describe how one goes about installing the springs in place of the ones already in there?

2) How does one remove the shock link pin from the lever arm - of course I've removed the bolt, but it doesn't seem to want to come off...and is it supposed to swivel? Mine are both pretty frozen and creak when I move 'em. New bushes required?

Thanks!

IIRC, you need to replace the entire link: They're swedged together, bushes are not renewable.

Thanks DrE...how much movement is there supposed to be between the shock arm and the link pin - any?

Ahh - I see how to change out the valves...very simple process involving a 13/16 wrench /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

None: the rubber "bushing" in the link is supposed to be snug fit.

OK, I managed to get the link pin out by whacking it with a hammer...then the cursed thing fell out onto my toe! I see what you mean about the snug fit with the parts seperated.

Now to get the new uprated shocks on!!

e careful with that valve - it comes apart if you don't have the shock tilted...you'll leave a spring & plunger up inside the shock.....oh, when you reinstall it, you've got to "prime" the valve assembly area with mineral oil...& don't drop the valve straight down into the shock - it'll come apart & might not work properly

By mineral oil, can I assume you mean the 20W petroleum/mineral-based fork oil I use in the shocks?

yep, regular old shock mineral oil - the clear type you get at the drugstore - or the type you put in the forks of your motorcycle
