Shipping Cost from UK

Well I just paid the freight on a package weighing around 19 lbs from London. I relied on my London contact who advised:

"......... the cheapest i have been quoted for Postage is £80-00 for surface mail for approximately 9kgs.
So I might as well send it courier, which will be slightly cheaper and you will receive it within 2-3 day pending customs rather than 3 to 4 weeks! .... (so)....postage cost will be £75-00...."

I did asked the shipper to use "Colletable and Antique" as part of the discription for customs.

With the dollar worth about 1/2 of a British pound, I am having sticker shock. I wonder how sugar from Central and South America could ever be traded in the US on a competitive basis. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/pukeface.gif

Whoa!

To put this into perspective, at current rates 80 quid is about $145.

It's about $350 all up for a flight from NY from Sept thru Mar. Add (say) another 200 for LA-NY. At that price you don't need to order much more stuff before flying there and carrying them back actually saves you money.

At that rate I think I'll pay for my friends airfare just to have them carry me things over. They all want to come here to go shopping anyway. I wonder if they can get a spare gearbox in their carry on...

I just ordered a headliner for my TR7 from Simon at Robsport over there, and including shipping it cost me 35-00 which worked out to $77.00 Canadian on my credit card. A friend of mine is in London right now and it would have saved me only 2-00 for him to ship it 80 miles to him, and he bring it home for me.

33 pounds for shipping from Herts to London. YMBJ - that's legalised robbery. Stuff like that reminds me why I moved here...

I got a whole windshield shipped from the UK - was about $400. Glad I got the glass for free!
