Popping over from the MG forum to ask a question. Does anyone know how much it would cost to ship a Mini from South London to NY? I'd need to know every last fee they could possibly throw at me. I don't want any surprises. PM me if you want.
Thanks
V

The cost to ship most Minis over here is a lot, considering the value of most Minis.

How badly do you want it???? /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wall.gif

Chances are, you can probably find what you're looking for right here in the good ole' USA.

Not that bad but osmeone offered me a 73 for $650. If it were local it would be a no brainer. But it being so far away makes in tougher.

I can put you in touch with a guy in the U.K. who exports to the U.S. for a living if you'd like to get some specifics. In addition to the shipping charges there's a fair amount of paperwork to sort out on each end. On this side of the Atlantic there's also a broker's bond or fee that has to be paid. In the end, the amount of hurdles and the total expense don't often justify the effort.

However, IF the '73 you've been offered is in sound shape (mainly the body), this does sound like a car that would be cost effective to import. Keep in mind that bodywork costs a mint regardless of whether it's a Mini or a Porsche. Make sure the car is nearly rust-free with very sound sills, footwells, and A-panels before you consider importing it.

I'll take the info. It's a $650 car but kept in a garage. At this point I am unsure of what the rust situation. If it were cheaper and easier to get, I'd take it on. Right now it may turn into how to help this guy sell his car and have it brought over here.

P.M. Sent. Please let me know if I can be of further help.

It cost me about $1500 to ship the Bugeye from WDC to Copenhagen. It may not be the same the other way around. It is also more expensive to Denmark than England.

It may not be relevant but I bought two Minis, a 61 and a 64 for $400 outside WDC about 20 years ago (I've been in Denmark for 15 years) Fine cars that only needed a bit of work to get going as daily drivers. There were after all a lot of Minis imported to the US.

The dollar is very low right now. It may be expensive to import a car from GB. (and the Danish Krone is high so the British Minis are cheap for me)

It's probably not in my best interest right now. I wish I could do it though.
