looking at a 73 Spitefire to buy. Car looks good, owner says that the

"Shift quality is good/crisp, but you need to learn the pattern. There are shift locator bushing that are about $24 from SpitBits, but I have not gotten around to swapping them out yet"

Anyone familar with these bushings? Do you need to pull the trans to replace them or can it be done in the car? Anybody driving a car with this issue?

Thanks....

I had that problem with my GT6

I sent it to John at Quantum Mech. I belive he had to remove the Trans. tunnel in order to replace the bushings....

What you want is part number 519770, currently $37.99 from Spitbits. The kit rebushes the shift extension. You will have to remove enough of the interior to take off the cover over the gearbox, after which you can easily unbolt the shift extension from the gearbox and rebush it on your workbench. Arguably the best money you'll ever spend on a Spitfire, in terms of satisfaction with the end result!

Thanks for the advice. Just bought a 1973 Spitfire from a forum member and am ordering the bushing kit today.
