Can anyone tell me what gauge of sheet metal was used for the bodies of the roundtail spitfires?

Thanks

Hello Darwin,

most British cars of the sixties use 20 gauge for the body panels and 18 gauge for structural members of the body.

(about 0.040" and 0.048" respectively, these dimensions from memory so I may be a thou or two off here)

Interestingly, when I replaced the floorpans on my TR6, I noticed that the new Heritage floorpans seemed thinner than the original. After many measurements of the original sheet metal, I determined that the original was indeed 20 gauge, whereas the replacement panels were only 22 gauge. Bummer.

Thanks for the help guys. The proper gauge for spitfire body panels is 22. Was able to measure a non rusty spot on the rear fender and the bulkhead.
