And I won a spelling bee in 2nd grade.


Language changes.
Shakespeare (or "Shakespere", or "Shakespear"....or however he spelled his name), would be appalled at <span style="text-decoration: underline">our</span> view of correct spelling.
Or maybe he'd find it comical....the way I view the spelling in "texting".

I read somewhere that the biggest shifts in language use are created by very young children (under the age of three). Not sure of the source of that. I would have guessed older folks using new terms (related to science and technology) would have been the root of most changes.

I've seen that first hand. The results can all too often be seen in their resumé. For some reason their edits SOMETIMES ARE ALL CAPS too. Go figure! Personally I think it's just an excuse for laziness.

Attempts at simplified spelling have been around for years, of course! One proponent was Melville Dewey (or Melvil Dui as he sometimes called himself) of the Dewey Decimal Classification system for libraries.

This page shows his introduction to the 12th edition. Something tells me he would fit right in with some of today's "texters"!

If you use Fire Fox it does spell check as you type. Other Browsers probably have similar capabilities.
