ok returned last night from that long trip from st. luis. the rust problem actually wasent as bad as my friend made it out to be, there are a few pannels that need to be replaced but other than that, she wont start, i need to get a longer set of jumper cables. it just makes a clicking sound when i turn the ignition.
the only thing that they did wrong with it, is i guess they tried to hook a chain up to the front end, when they put it on the car trailer from the port, it ripped the hole and busted a weld, on one of the front pannels. now for the fun part getting her running again

ok swaped out the selonoid, and alternator, cleaned all the connections, and grounding strap. im going to look and see if it couldent be a fuel problem.

A fuel problem won't prevent the engine from turning over on the starter. Check and make sure you're getting power to the starter itself. Make sure the starter gear isn't stuck in the flywheel. There is a square shaft on the end of the starter you can turn with a 3/8" wrench to back the pinion out.
If all else fails, pull the starter and have it tested.

So what are the symptoms with the new solenoid installed? Did you make sure the battery was charged and/or in good enough shape to use? Did you get that loner set of jumper cables to try and start the car with? Don't forget that in addition to the grounding strap on the engine/front wing, you need to pay attention to the ground strap on the battery in the boot. The connection to the boot floor can also be a problem.

yes i was just about to post. it took some work but she is running. the key wont start it, but i can short the selonoid to get it to turn over. the battery wont hold a charge, i swaped out a couple wires that were bad. and after i started it i got in trouble for spinning out for a bout a block, not that it was on pourpose but i need to get the hang of the new engine. she should be headed to the auto electric shop right off base, in about a week. to be completely rewired.
