Everyone,

I just took my BJ8 out for the first spin. WOW. I have had the car fo 2 years and never got around to getting the darn thing up and running. Something always got in the way. I finally sent it off to Norb and he got it running. Not a cheap excersize at all but it is up and running. It was fabulous. I haven't driven a stick shift in over 18 years. I was scared to death and then it all came back. Except for the usually rude bumper hugging idiots on the road it was great. I have to go through a scenic way on the way home. Awesome. More power then I thought. Fun Fun Fun. But now the work really begins this winter as I do a rolling resto on the car. Anyways a few good days or weeks left to drive it. I have a question though. The car had the foam style cleaners on them when I bought the car. I replaced them with new foam but what should I use to treat the foam. Regular oil? K and N stuff? Can I find it at the local pep boys or auto zone store? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I want to take it for a early sunday drive and enjoy the great weather we are having.

Thanks

Tony

I had foam covers over the standard wire mesh filters (took them off and use only when the heavey pollens are falling). But I think you are talking of something else. Mine just wash with soapy water and hang dry. If you do have the wire mesh original filters you wash in thinner or gas and air dry (I use the compressor to blow dry cause it removes more dust and crud) and re-oil. These are not the best filtration systems in the world but I like the original look. If you are interested there have been several posts re: filters in the past you can recall here on the forum.
Congrads on the reserection of your BJ.

Hi Tony,

Most foam filters are designed to be oiled. There are several oils available at specialty auto supply shops. Another possibility is to use a 50/50 mixture of 10 wt oil & kerosene.
Caution, if you use an oil which is too thick, or leave too much oil in the foam, the air intake will be severely restricted.

Glad that you found out how much fun the cars can be.
D
