A sway bar, if you don't have one is a very nice addition.
 
Don't know what it is like without one on there. Feels nice the way it is though....

Speaking of which, I wish I could find a vendor with Poly motor mounts!
 
Nice looking fabrication! My Jag bonnet mounts in a similar fashion, but I'm years away...

Urethane motor mounts, eh? That gives me an idea. Urethane is easy to do. I made a mold and did my own suspension bushings for the GT6 and Spitfire. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/hammer.gif

Kim, I don't think anyone is trying to copy a 'Vette. It's because a forward tilt bonnet makes it <u><span style='font-size: 12pt'><span style="color: #FF0000">really</span></span></u> easy to work on. You must have never bumped your head working in the "bears mouth" of the original setup! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

I am keeping the original hinge method, though. Part of the charm. Maybe I'll just invest in a padded helmet... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif
 
With the tilt forward bonnet you don't have to bend over to work in side. In addition everything is much easer to get to.

Well, I'd have to first make a set and then do some testing to make sure my design was correct. I'll have to figure out the stresses involved, devise a test protocol, build a fatigue test stand, and then run a set through life cycle test. Or, I could just bolt a set into one of my cars and drive the snot out of it! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif
Seriously, I'll have to cut a stock one apart and look at it before I go any further with the idea.
I'll keep you posted on the project if I decide to go ahead with it.

I don't want to be a pessimist but poly bushings work under compressive forces - always. Motor mounts work with both compressive and tensile forces. Poly can probably take it, but the rubber motor mounts are vulcanised to the steel end caps. We all know what happens when the vulcanising deteriorates. The mount comes apart. Unless you can devise a method for vulcanising poly, it won't work. There is an alternative. Designing the mount to have two compressive sections. One for overall compressive force, and one for overall tension force. Usually the right mount is under compression force. The left mount changes often between compression and tension. Tension while accelerating.
 
Option #3 could be to split the front in the middle and have it hinge upward in the center like a Silver Cloud....ok, maybe not! LoL
 
Donn, I was thinking along the lines of doing two capture plates for the mount bolts, cast inside the poly. This is just an idea that didn't even begin to germinate until yesterday, hence my testing comments. It would seem that the added rigidity of the poly on the right side would somewhat alleviate the tensional forces on the left.
