Ok recent developments on my 78 Shark.
I know they say there’s no such thing as a budget Porsche. So heeding the warnings, when I purchased mine I expected the worst and budgeted accordingly. Well it’s been a couple of weeks now and I’ve found or identified most of the little gremlins and items I wish to address. Luckily nothing major except for the fact that most of the A/C components are shot. So either the PO was fibbing to me about how good the A/C was or it was going out and he just didn’t know it.
So right at the moment most of the A/C woes are being taken care of by a friend of mine who has a local shop. Sorry while I know some would say that money could be better used elsewhere - but in a black on black car in the 100 plus degree weather we’ve been having lately – let me tell ya A/C is a necessity. This believe it or not is my only real complaint about the Shark.
Interior upgrades are minor and involve mostly cleanup. But I do plan on a new carpet kit this winter and having a couple of bad spots on the door panels fixed. In the interim I've also purchased a short shifter and a GTS style leather boot & knob to replace the old stuff that has seen better days. Along with that I’ve purchased a new Momo competition style steering wheel & adapter to replace the old unit. I am addressing the dim gauge pod with a updated LED (white) kit that should be an improvement over the stock piped in lighting.
I’ve also purchased a set of wheels & tires on-line from Wheel Dynamics & should have them mounted by the weekend. Did a lot of looking around locally and online & these guys looked as if they did a large volume of Porsche business and seemed to know what they where talking about when it came to my specific application. Unlike some of the other places that when I made inquires they really didn’t seem to know from what. Anyway I went ahead and purchased a set of Carrera Lightweights 18x8 50mm front & 18x10 65mm rear. Rubber will be Falken 512s’ 225/40/ZR18 F and 265/35/ZR18 R. This should be a vast improvement over the old three piece Gotti wheels & 225x50zr 16 rubber I’m currently running front & rear.
Lastly while the engine seems to be great I decided to give it a little something too. So I will be installing a Borla cat-back system. Should compliment the K&N air filter & the Cat-bypass tube (not legal for street use /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif ) I’ve got sitting in the garage.
Lastly besides some minor trim pieces here & there I will be installing a new sound system. Mainly because the old aftermarket (Walmart style) system looks & sounds like crud! Mind you I’m not looking for something that’ll rattle windows for blocks in all directions, just something that I can relax to and enjoy. XM capable with a multi-disk CD changer.
It's only money - right? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif
Oh well, there’s more to come but she should really start looking & sounding pretty sweet by this weekend. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif
