Drilled all the rivets out of the header rail for my MGB this morning, then spent a half hour or so getting all the rivet ends (and the ones that were already in there) to come out. Most came out of the holes where the frame screws to the header, but I did wind up drilling one extra hole -- underneath where the seal goes -- to get out the last two. What a pain!

Car goes in on Monday to be fitted with the new top. I'm switching to the stow-away type while I'm doing it, as I rarely use the top and I like the space behind the seats for a bit of extra storage.
 
This is exactly what I did with my MGB. I don't think I've had the top up since early 2010 so the extra space is nice (and the top get's less "crunched" compared to my old scissors-type frame. By the way, I always fold my top into an old beach towel to keep the window less scratched and bent.

I don't think I got all the rivet ends out of the header, but with my hearing, I'll never notice them rattling anyway. :laugh:

Most of the headers we've put new tops on have had the holes hogged out so badly they had to be relocated, with three generations of those rivets rattling around in there. Usually we could shake 'em all out. Good job, Drew.

The hardtop is usually on our B, the stow-away is seldom used unless we go someplace "outside the yard" topless. :laugh:

My car came to me with the scissor frame and I was truly not impressed with that design. I rarely use the top anyways, so the pack away style made more sense. I'm also planning on getting a hard top at some point for spring/fall usage, so it seemed to make the most sense.

I'm dropping the car off after work tonight at the shop. Going to have the guy replace the zipper on my tonneau and possibly open up the head rest pockets -- I've got my seat a bit too far back for the existing ones.

I admit that I don't like the look of the head rests, and my car probably didn't come with them originally as they were not standard on the UK cars when mine was built and aren't listed as an option on my Heritage report. Seats have been recovered, and the head rests were probably added then.

Feel silly about removing them, though, as they are a safety improvement -- at least a bit.

I've gota headrest seat in the passenger side of the B and a (shabby) Recaro in the driver's position. Tonneau is so old the thread holding it together is brittle/rotted. Sometimes I think about having it "fixed" but just haven't been motivated.
 
Mine has the original '69 tonneau. It's pretty sad-looking and thread-bare too. I'm off on a 200 mile ride in a few moments with it. It's a glorious day and I'll pass through the Princeton campus plus some other nice sites. The top is hanging in the basement (where it belongs).

By the time I get home the tonneau will have unclipped several of the looser snaps and will flapping in the breeze. But who cares? Part of the fun!

I don't really like the look of the headrests, but I suppose they might help in some instances.
 
I'll keep the head rests, even if they are a bit ugly. Would feel silly getting hurt due to aesthetic isses. Heck, if I really wanted the car to look better I'd have to hire a better looking driver.
