Just heard it on Fox News. May he Rest in Peace and may his loved-ones find comfort and peace in what is always a difficult time for any family.

This will be the only thread regarding this topic. I know there are likely strong opinions in both directions regarding Sen. Kennedy, so please do not make ANY even remotely political comments - either way. The purpose of this thread is to pay respects to a public figure who's family has suffered a great loss - let's keep it that way.
 
Very sad news.

A great man, from a great family. He will be missed by many.

I don't know how to explain it, but it seems like a chapter of my adult life has now closed. I was 13 when JFK was assasinated.

Yeah, I was 12 when JFK left us, so I have a similar reaction.

Me too, I was 10. It's something I'll never forget.

What I remember most about Ted was the eulogy he delivered at Bobby's funeral in '68. He did it like a man, kept his composure with minimal emotion and delivered a memorable speech. He became the man of the family that day, it couldn't have been easy.

End of an era today.

That age thing is strange...I was 16 when JFK was assassinated, and I am 61 now that Ted is gone (numerical dislexia?)! He certainly made his mark in the history of our nation! The end of an era! Condolences to the family!
 
His association with Special Olympics was laudable - an organization I personally support (I hope I live long enough to see these kids not be fodder for our jokes).

A very sad thing indeed. A truly great American, and whether one agreed with his views on any particular issue or not (and I agreed with most of them), one of the things I admired about him the most was his ability to make political discourse civil, his ability to avoid turning debates on the issues into personal battles, and his ability to find common ground with those with whom he disagreed. He will forever be not only a model for serving this country, but also a model for all legislators and politicians that come after him. We will miss you, sir.
 
It's too bad that the hypocrites that were in the Congress with him can't stop making speeches about how much they admire him and how great he was, yet we the "common folk" get what he was trying to say and do and they've missed the point completely. Before he is laid to rest, the childish actions and behavior will begin all over again.

I spent the day in front of the TV...first watching the (very moving) funeral service in Boston...then to the Capitol steps....and finally, a few minutes ago, his burial service at Arlington National Cemetery.

While I did no always agree with his philosophies....he was a good man that indeed brought change to this country and the world.

May he rest in peace; may his family know that our thoughts are with them.
