Hi -

For my A90 I'd like to rebuild the semaphores (Lucas S40) but I'd like a bit of guidance on where some of the insulating papers are supposed to go....

Is there a guide out there for repairing these things?

Thanks!

Alan

If you google "rebuild trafficators" you will get a lot more hits

I get mostly hits for Control heads, which I don't want.

I need to get information on how to rebuild the Lucas Semaphores... any other ideas? i mostly need to know where the various pieces of insulating paper are supposed to go...

Thanks!

Alan

These are complex little units. They can be found NOS. Let me look in my files for someone that may help you.

Don't mean to be nit-picky but semaphores are used on Volkswagens. Brit cars use trafficators.

Yes, very helpful.

Now, can anyone help me figure out how to put these back together?

Thanks!

There is one Lucas still in the car that I have not been able to remove yet. The other has long since been disassembled. I also have a pair of rebuilt Tex units to replace them. They are virtually identical except for a round instead of flat solenoid and the arm linkage. They are over at my shop and we expect a foot of snow tonight. As soon as possible I'll go check them to be sure. I'm pretty certain though that the paper insulated the coil can as well as the bullet connectors from the frame.

The paper was rolled around the coils. We've used those Tex ones with fine results. Frame isolation can be about anything non-conductive.

Still can't get the Lucas out of the Prefect so no advice there. Finally got to the Tex though and the only insulator on it is between the socket for the bullet connector and the frame.
