Seeking info on GAN3L28111 - Owners prior 1996 in the US

Since I am new to this Forum I would like to explain a little why I am posting this here. On another Forum - MGEXP - someone recommended to ask in every relevant forum on the web, to broaden
my chances in finding the info I am looking for. As the US record keeping on cars is very much different from Europe, I hope that maybe someone has info on my car or knows someone who perhaps owned it during its period in the US.

I am asking every Forum Member that might be able to help, I try to put together - if possible - the whole history of my car:

VIN # GAN3L28111
Motor # 10CC-DA-H/3875
Tartan Red
Midget Mk2 (built 1964, US export model)

It is believed that it was exported to the US no later than 1965.

last known place before re-import in a scrapyard in California.
Re-Import 1996 to the UK, underwent full restoration.

In this country that last known history would be your best chance at finding the previous history. I doubt that most people over here can even guess at their VIN number.

Good luck! If the car wasn't rusty it most likely was always a California car.

Have you tried contacting the department of Motor Vehicles for the state? I am not sure if they would/ could list previous owners? In Ontario they do amazingly.
