I saw it in a field with grass around it and left a note. The guy calls back and said they'll let it go for $1000. He said it has a cracked block, but I don't care. I didn't get to look at it up close, but it looks fairly clean from what I can see.

and.......IT's DARK GREEN WITH A TAN TOP!!!!!

Exactly what I wanted !!!!

I am ~SO~ pumped !!!!

1500 engine should fit in one of those - with a 4 speed, and then, for comfort, a set of Midget seats, black vinyl is best.

The NB (second generation) has a 1800cc engine. Should be able to find a good used one at a reasonable price...$400-$600. That was the going rate a couple of years ago anyway. Mazmart has always carried this kind of stuff. They operate out of Atlanta.

Edit: Most of these cars are not daily drivers, so 5k-6k miles per year is probably the average. The engines are pretty bullet proof with regular maintenance, so if you can pick one up with say less then about 70k-80k miles, you'll have plenty of miles left on it. I have only 93k miles on my '92, with 30k miles that have been supercharged. No signs of wear yet. They're good engines. As a matter of fact, the whole car is good.

Hummmmmmmm, do I smell a 5 liter?

Well, apparently I see what I want to see. Not a tan top, but black anfd splitting at the seems, base model, 5 sp, 125K, worn black cloth seats, paint fading on hood and trunk, front nose rattle caned touch up with a small amount of bondo in the DS front fender. MASSIVE rat nest under hood, about a whole hay bale, wires don't appear to be chewed, frams rails straight, but bottom pushed in a bit the entire lenth of both. Has brand new tires on it, but it's been sitting.

It's a country field car for sure, not at all what I thought it was (wanted it to be). Overall the body is pretty nice, it's just all the other stuff. I think $500 MAX.

I'll be honest with you-if the previous owners managed to crack the block, then (as you found out) the rest of the car is likely to be shot to heck. Seriously, spend more than a grand and get something that's been at least a little bit cared for, and that runs. I mean, why go to the trouble of replacing the engine and a thousand other things, on a Miata, when good ones are cheap enough anyway?

I'd buy it for parts, even though I don't have one.....but I aint payin' $1,000. More like $300.

probably 299 too much...
