Can anyone tell me if the seat rail levers for a PH I BJ8 are supposed to be chrome plated or zinc plated. My car has one of each. I am having stuff chrome plated and I need to know if I need to incluce these levers. Thanks and have a good day!

John

Hi John,
Chrome would feel nicer to the touch, but I'm pretty sure Zinc is correct. Heck, John Loftus is zinc plating his, that makes it official in my book. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Yes .. zinc plate is original (and official /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif ) . I've seen pictures of the reproductions that are very shiny. It looks like chrome plate but may just be zinc over highly polished metal. I would be concerned about thickness buildup of triple plate chrome with the ball bearing clearances. Sometimes the copper layer is done fairly thick to build up material for a smooth finish on old parts. No big deal if it's a bumper but the tighter clearance for ball bearings may cause problems and then the chrome may flake in the race area.

Cheers,
John

Thanks for the response. The only thing chrome plated on the one I have is the lever, the rest is zinc plated. I will go ahead and zinc plate the levers. Thanks again and have a good day!

I checked the concours guide and "All parts of the rails and runners were zinc-plated. On the BN1's through the BN4's, the release handle was chrome-plated, and thereafter was zinc-plated"

Sounds like one of your Seat Rails was from an earlier car or aftermarket for an earlier car?

Cheers,
John
