Seat fore and aft adjustment problem

I'm having a little trouble with my seat adjustment. Specifically, the dirvers side won't slide very far forward. It's ok when I'm driving the car, but it's almost impossible for my wife to drive it.

Do any of you have tips on removal and refitting the seats? Maybe possible causes? The rails look clean and the seat does move and lock in like it should.

Once you have made sure the slides are actually travelling all the way front to back, determine how much farther forward you need to go. Remove the seat, noting which holes in the seat rails the bolts go through. Remount the seat using a different set of holes if available. If there are not any more holes available or it is already in the forward-most position possible, you can drill new holes in the floorboards to attach to. Just make sure that when you bolt into the new holes, the nut under the car is supported with a large fender washer or other piece of metal. This will distribute the load better and prevent the seat from tearing out of the floor in an impact. Good luck!
 
Eric, You didn't say if the right seat slides further forward than the left seat. If it does, then you probably have something under the seat or in the rail slot that is stopping the seats forward movement. It's not unusual to drop a coin, a comb, a pen, or some small object down under the seat and thus restrict movement. It could even be a rusty rail. Probably the best thing to do is pull the seat out, clean and lubricate the rails. Put it back in the factory holes first and try it. It should go far enough forward that even the smallest person could drive it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif PJ
 
What year MGB? & does it have the center console?
 
Tony it's a 1978 and it has the integrated armrest.

I should also note that the passenger seat does move further forward than the drivers side.

The driver side gets tighter the farther forward you bring the seat...the transmission tunnel & center console are closer on the driver side...it should go just far enough forward that you can see the 2 rearmost bolts holding the seat runner to the floor.
 
They all should have been RHD, IMHO. hehehehhe /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
