Seat Cushions for a big behind!!!

Just received some new seat cushions from OSJI.

Can anyone offer some insight before I take these tired seats apart? I know the seat bottom cushions come out with the removal of one screw. What I want to know is what to expect when I peal away the leather covers.

The leather is in great shape for its age and I intend to preserve it. How do I maintain the original shape? Hog rings??

Advice will be greatly appreciated.

in my '84, I had to first remove front frame bracket & screw located in front of the seat frame, and then seat motor switch and connections. After the seat is out of the car, then remove the rubber diaphragm from the bottom, then remove the down-pressure cords with washers, (I don't know what the upholsteric term is for those, but those are what shapes the leather to the foam shape), then carefully peel the leather cover off the foam shape, because time "glues" both of them together.

While you have the leather cover off, might be the time to install a Seat Heater, which I also did. Installation is the reverse of the above!
 
My 87 did not have hog rings. The leather was held with spring clips every few inches. Get a 90 degree scribe or awl to slip inder the spring clips to pry the clips off. A Sears Craftsman Cotter pin puller works well also. The leather is folded over the sheet metal channels of the seat frame and the clip holds it in place. A small ball peen hammer or an upholstery tack hammer works well to tap the spring clips in place.
 
I got the Driver side seat cushion replaced this weekend. What a difference!

I was a bit skeptical of the OSJI cushions. Once compared to the original (What was left) they seemed like they where incorrect.

After careful evaluation and a bit of glue the seat bottoms where as good as new.
