LBC Fans,

I am seeking advice in the installation of seat belts in my '57 MGA 1500. I have been unable to find any mounting points on my A. I believe that the belts were either not available or were an option in the original car....

So, the query, where and how do I install lap belts???

Thanks...

In 1957 seat belts were not as yet required, maybe it never had any.

Jack,

Thanks for the corroboration... My first A, a '57, that I owned in 1966 did not have seat belts so I assume that they were not available.

The racing versions of the car must have had belts so all I need do is find out how the folks at Abingdon secured them to the chassis.

Steve,

Thanks....

See you in Fullerton.... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cheers.gif

My orginal '60 bugeye did not have belts.

Jack,

With that bit of info... Maybe the slogan for the MG should have been...

'Safety Fast - but hold on..' /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif

I don't know what the AH slogan was but a similar sentiment was in order....

By the way, what was the AH slogan??

No clue but there must have been one.

How about.... Beep beep, Bugeye comming through.

Jack,

I like it, although shouldn't it be...

They didn't weld mounts on the frames until the Mk 2.

Just order up the kit from Todd Clarke - everything you need to retrofit the car. I did that on my Jamaican, which as it happens is also based on a 1957. See lower down on this page.

CLARKESPARES

He does not as yet have a web based catalogue, but will send you his paper version which is worth keeping as a reference work!

One hint - before just relying on the template to weld the brackets on the frame, test the positioning out to see if the belts you will be using clear the back of the seat - you might have to move the brackets a fraction of an inch that will save you abrading the seat cover - just takes a minute to check.

He supplies the brackets for the shoulder belt as well, for either coupe or roadster (different factory mounting points) so tell him exactly what you are fitting it to.

I highly recommend this seller for all the little stuff you need to do a really good restoration, including hardware.
