Seam Sealer, do I need it?

My bugeye is slowly getting stripped down to its bare bones. The black tar seam sealer is either hard, runny, gooey or just plain irritating depending on where and how the stripper attacks it. I will be so happy to finally see it gone.

Should I replace it with anything, and where? One of the bugeye guy videos show modern seam sealer painted on some of the seams. I imagine he's using the Dupont product that comes in the quart cans. I'll probably schutz the inner fender panels. The car is not likely to see inclement weather again.

I do not know the specific areas you would seam seal on a Bugeye. However, I would seam seal any place that water could potentially get into.

While DuPont probably does have seam sealer, I am more familiar with products from Eastwood and 3M. Those products I purchased in quart cans and applied using an brush. I have also used whatever brand is sold by AutoZone in caulk gun cartridges. In both cases I have smoothed the sealer down using a finger dipped in mineral spirits.

Even though most the products say you can paint over them the same day, I have always waited at least overnight before top coating seam sealer.
