Spitfire scuttle vents

There are 2 rectangular holes in the scuttle that lead to a deep V to nowhere. I assume they are vents of a sort. They are supposed to have screens over them.

Questions:

1. Are the screens still available? If so, where from.

2. How in the dibble do they attach? I see no way of holding them in place.

3. Do I even have a clue about what I am seeking?
