Yesterday I took a group of students to the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City. In addition to housing the Cowboy Hall of Fame, the museum has an impressive art gallery and museum documenting Western history. Here are a couple of my favorite sculptures from the museum.

That first one, The End of the Trail, tells so many stories.

Have you ever been to the Amon Carter Museum of American Art in Fort Worth? Originally specializing in art depicting the American West.

Remington to Georgia O'Keefe. Great exhibition.

For some reason I had trouble getting this one added in the original post. Perhaps I had too many photos.

I decided to go ahead and share this second one of the mountain lion. The overhead lights did not really cooperate and as a result I'm not sure if I like this photo or not.

Tom, I have been down to the Amon G. Carter before. It's been about ten years now, but I remember their Remington collection very well.

While the Cowboy has impressive collections of both Remington and Russel, sadly, their exhibits are being renovated right now, so they are in storage.

And while these aren't quite sculpture, they are pretty impressive. The Cowboy had an exhibit on cowboy boots set up and one of the cases contained a pair of Andre the Giant's size 24 boots.

Wow - haven't seen reference to Andre the Giant in years. Lots of publicity when he was alive, but his personal life wasn't all that great.

That pair of boots reminds me of Robert Wadlow:

I remember seeing a pair of Wadlow's shoes once in Ripley's Believe it or Not down in San Antonio. Apparently he was used as in marketing by the company that made his shoes.
