I'm just replacing the bolts & screws that hold down the pedal box under the hood with stainless. All of them are bolts, except the top two (closest to driver) which are phillips head screws. Any reason why the top two are screws and the rest bolts? Or that they all couldn't be bolts?

I can't remember, but I think it might be difficult to get a socket on those. Socket head bolts would be good for those.

'74 pedal box is different than a bugeye.
Ah I should have mentioned type & year.
I basically broke with tradition and solved my problem by using all button socket head cap screws for all of them. Easier to get an allen wrench in there than a screwdriver or socket wrench. I had to grind off the ends to make them pointed like the originals, which I am guessing helps get everything aligned a bit easier.
Still curious though why I had all hex bolts and two phillips screws (all 1/4 fine). The only ones I could reach with the screwdriver were the two phillips ones, but then why not just use hex bolts there too? Ah well...

It's a British thing!:highly_amused: If that bothers you too much, Get a T series MG for the next car. 
Depending on year, three different bolt/screw threads, Whitworth, Standard and Metric head sizes and a mix of straight slot, Reid and Prince and Phillips screw heads! Bottom line, unless you are building a concurs car, do your own thing, whatever makes you happy. JMHO PJ
