Well I need to know the size, thread and all that of the screw that I should go buy to put the Moss alternator bracket to the engine and the ones to put from the engine to the bracket.

The I know the size wrench I use for the manifold nuts is a 1/2 standard unit. But what size screw do i need thread and size wise, and from the manifold to the catalytic converter what size and thread nuts do i need.

Oh, my. Search the old posts for all the info you ever wanted on fasteners british cars.

There's plenty of nuts here Keenan. All shapes, sizes and origins.

Not me, I'm a Bugeye kind of guy. Guess that makes me buggy as well. Sorry.

HEY NOW! I resemble that remark.

Very carefully try bolts of the correct diameter and different threads. You sure don't want to cross-thread (force in the wrong bolt) anything or it could really cost a lot of work or a lot of money to fix it. gently screw it in full depth to find the correct length needed. When you find the right bolt diameter, length and thread, go to Home Depot and ask for help to find the correct class of bolt, one made for automotive use.

If you don't have a few bolts or screws to try, beg, borrow or steal a few from the neighbors! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/lol.gif

One thing to bear in mind about the bolts and nuts...you will need to find "fine thread" in most cases. Home Cheapo carries the best assortment of fine thread hardaware, some of it is even available in stainless...pricey, but worth it IMHO.

Well, I had to pay 3 bucks for 5, but these were the only one in my town that were in stock. Metric -------, but they seem to work, eh.

(EDIT: If I can figure them out, I'll correct them - if I can't you guys will have to help me)

K - If you got metric threaded parts, return them and get SAE bolts that match. I would have thought the bolts from your original bracket from the '77 engine would work. If you bugger up the threaded boss in the engine, it won't be pretty. That and you'll be one unhappy camper.

One of my first DPO fixes had to do with the use of incompatible threads.

Take care - Looking forward to seeing the pictures of you driving up the street!

Go by Harbor Freight and get a cheap tap and die set. Chase all your threads before you put the new bots in. Also, don't use metric! Most bolts are SAE fine thread. See the link I gave you above for sizes. Any good hardware will have them, or if your lucky, you'll have a bolt store nearby like McMaster-Carr or Fastenal.
