LHD - titled as a 96.
Didn't realise they had imported any here.
Did they? Or was it a drivetrain swap or a personal import?

I wonder quite a bit about all the jdm nissan r34 skylines I see on the road (I've seen at least 4 of them in tuscaloosa county). They've got to be grey market imports somehow considering they are 1998-2002 models.

There is a booming trade in bringing in those Skylines. From what I can gather, they import the bodies and the drivetrains seperately and re-unite them once they're here. I think that by doing that there's a loophole in the import regulations.....someone else may be able to enlighten us on that?

Bret actually posted a photo of some of these a while back. They were in an official warehouse, awaiting acceptance and/or collection by those that imported them.....

I looked into going to the UK & buying a new MG TF then separating its drivetrain from the body & shipping them back separately....easy & legal to do.....then I could reassemble it here in the US....& title it.

There's 1 glich though: there are no 'lines' (whatever those are) for the new MG TF for any US insurance company to use to insure it.....so, if it was involved in an accident I'd be liable...even if an insurance company did insure it, I'd be personally open for litigation by the family of anybody who might be injured or killed by a car that was not US-legal.... its a little different than the 230 Mercedes I imported years ago as the only real difference between it & a US model was the engine, same with the 323i BMW I imported......but a car that's completely different from anything imported is another issue altogether.

Or at least that's the legal advice I got.

Alan,

Where are you located?
I've heard of an Escort RS imported into Canada.
I think it's a lot easier to import one there.
Don't even think about trying to register one
in California.

Probably where he got it from. It was a shock seeing one is all.

I think for $40k+ delivered I'd personally go for something older - I can't see myself taking that into the local Ford dealer for a service...

Cool! I'll take these 2...
