Saw a Smart car today!

And if your favorite pollution creator is an LBC you'll have a lot more fun doing it too....

I've been telling my friends that for years as some sort of justification for owning and driving older cars. My newest car currently is my TR8. Though sometimes I do yearn for newer comfort. But that is what rentals are for, right? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

@Steve S

Having said that... The only car I own right now is an old beater car (1990 Plymouth Sundance), it's probably only worth $300, but still running good...

Just yesterday I talked to a guy at work. He and his wife drove a VW Golf diesel for 15 years and 1 million kilometres before it finally died, at which point they purchased a Ford Escape... And his work truck (roofing industry) is a 1986 Chevy 3/4 Ton pickup he paid $300 for, plus some costs to certify it, he told me that the truck is still in good mechanical condition and should last a few years yet.

The one appealing thing to me about a Smart Car is the small size of it, in particular for getting around the inner city of a large urban centre, and ease of parking, but however it will be quite some time before I will be purchasing one...

I just fixed my wifes $1200 Eagle Talon... 30+ mpg (unless I'm driving it). I've got the Toyota for sale (14-16mpg and a $200 payment I want to get rid of), and the $600 LTD surprisingly gets about 24+ mpg. Couldn't afford insurance and tags on either of the fun cars this time 'round, so they are sitting - semi retired for hopefully no more than a few months.

Especially when gas prices get up around $4 gallon (maybe sooner than later).

I still fantasize about the days when I was in graduate school in Texas and we paid 27.9 cents a gallon for 100-octane Super Shell ethyl (basically aviation fuel). In that era, there was no earthly reason not to drive a 440 Mopar wedge, 454 Chevy, or 455 HO Pontiac! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif

Has anyone seen the Smart roadster? I will be first in line when they are available.

I've read that it's going out of production and there were no plans for bringing it to the US.
