I was playing with the timing on my 8 and my Boston Terrier "Ollie" was supervising so after I go it about right I rewarded both of us with a twlight ride around the block.
We got less than a mile from our house and we topped a hill and Ollie spotted something standing on the road ahead. I slowed down thinking it was a german shepard but as I approached the black bear started across the street. He was a young male and looked very scared but at least he was smart enough to look both ways before crossing. He took off after I stopped about 50 feet away across the road and through a few back yards. I tried to get my phone to the camera app but was not quick enough. A few people were down the street and of course they decided to walk toward the bear as he ran away from me. Then they approached me wondering if the bear was going to try to come back and eat her mini goats. I explained the bear was extreamly frightened and they were not smart (I didn't say stupid to them) to try to get close to the bear when he was scared. I doubt he is a threat to anyone unless he were to be hurt or cornered by people trying to get close to him. If nothing else I met a very cute lady with mini goats (never know when you might need that combination)
We have had a rash of bear sightings from near my house to a moderate size town of Butler and Brackenridge to downtown Pittsburgh. I have never seen so many bear this far toward the populated areas.
When I got home I realized the woods he came out of are the ones I look into from my front porch.
