Saturday Treat! [car experience!] [ a little long

I had to go in early to work on a beautiful Saturday morning to try to get a little caught up. I got a lot done and left work at about 10:30 am. I decided to cruise through the Plaza, an historic, beautiful, posh shopping area here in KC. I was annoyed at first to find out that the inner part of the shopping area (and my coffee shop) were blocked off. To my surprise they had about 180 cars lining the center of the shopping area all backed in toward the curb in a diagonal, facing down the wide street, covering about 3-4 blocks and a couple side streets. There were about 20 Ferrari's, a couple Lamborghini's, a Lotus, 12 cyl Jag, a couple Ford GT's, some Shelby and Roush Mustangs, several Vipers, about 30 Porsches, a couple dozen Vette's. (there were a few British cars and assorted WRX's and Nissan 350Z's etc) and for some reason a Toyota Avalon. They were all getting ready to start off on a rally run out to the Kansas Speedway about 25 miles away. Seeing all those great cars at once was a real treat itself but then the real heart thumping experience happened: The "starter" pointed to each of cars one-by-one and they all got to "show their stuff" by roaring out of their parking spot and scream down the street before heading out to the track. Man what great sounds! The croud, of course, egged them on so most of the drivers really laid into the throttle were probably hitting 60-70 mph in a heartbeat before they had to cool down to turn into traffic. The Italian exotica were outstanding in ther sound and acceleration but I have to say the roar of the Vipers, some of the Mustangs, and that Ford GT were pretty exciting. I happened to be driving my Miata instead of my TR but I had a great time playing Sterling Moss on the boulevards on my way home. Maybe my reward for being a good worker bee. I didn't have my camera but a buddy was there and said he took a few-- May be able to post later.
