Well, the best TV sale around is at Target!

No real sales at Circuit City; none at Best Buy; none even at Wallmart; or any other stores - local or national chains. I mean, they all have TV's on sale - but none of their 'sales' are good deals.

But, at Target, they have - through Saturday - a 37" TV on sale for $498...& if you get a Target "Redcard", the same day you buy the TV, they'll knock an additional 10% off the sales price!

I know, I bought one today...$448.20!! That's an overall savings of $148.20 from the original sales price....on a 37" high definition, flat screen TV!

In Panama City Beach, the TV was a Phillips; Here in Huntsville it's a Sylvania; guess the brand depends on location.

Opening store credit cards will mean a hit on your credit score.

Not if you buy your TV with it, walk over to the customer service desk, pay the card off with a check or debit card and then immediately cancel the card!

I had my Target card all of 1 hour!

What model was it?

Mehehehehe.... The folks at Target hate people like you Tony... hehehe. Of course thay're banking on the other 999 out of 1000 that don't immediatly pay off and cancel the card.
Retail has gotta wake up! the credit wave is crashing! and offering deals to extend more credit is only adding to the force of the wave when it does crash.
This won't end well.
But on a lighter note. enjoy the big game on your new TV Tony!

Bought it for the studio apartment we're building over the garage - grandson's gameroom!

My understanding is that even if they run a credit check on you then your rating takes a hit. There has been a number of TV talking heads cautioning against it recently. Also see https://www.bankrate.com/brm/news/cc/20081124-store-credit-cards-a2.asp about half way down. "An application for a new credit card triggers a hard inquiry on your credit report, which can impact your credit score. The damage typically costs 10 to 30 points...

I'm no expert on this, but worth looking into.

The FICO hit is marginal and temporary and the savings are worth it.
Just pay the bill, cancel the card and move along. Nothing to see here.

The last person on earth I'd take financial advice from is a talking head on TV.

:iagree: Hehehe, I can see it now, Tony will have the boy doing some virtual driving in no time!! :driving:

No problem! (as long as the boy also does leaf raking, lawn mowing, etc etc.)

Hmmm - can I hire him for snow removal up here? :jester:

Well, their card is a Target VISA - it lasted only about an hour before it was cancelled. & I could care less what it does to my credit rating as I never use credit for anything...my AMEX card is paid fully every month; all my gas cards are fully paid & I rarely use them; my Mastercard & VISA are paid monthly if, and when, I use them; my house is paid for as are all my cars, so.....

& I agree that most TV talking heads haven't a clue except for their prepared talking points.

& if 10-30 points hurts a person's credit rating, they shouldn't be allowed to use credit!

Scalextric... my son has about 20 cars, several MGs, Minis, Astons. I can't beat him.
Are those the 1:48 cars?

Whatever I get for the room, I hope I can find MG's, Jag's, etc.
