SAAB deal falls through

Poor GM.

First, Penske changed his mind about Saturn.

Now, Koenigsegg has backed out of deal to buy SAAB (at least for now).

--More Info Here--

I read somewhere that the Swedish government's guarantee to back the loans that Koenigsegg was going to get fell through. They must have felt that it was just too risky.

The whole idea of a supercar manufacturer going after Saab just seemed all out of place to begin with.

I've owned my share of Saabs and even worked for a Saab dealer in the early '70s for about five years. I always liked the cars, and it will be sad to see them go. GM pumped a bunch of money into Saab, but for some reason, wasn't able to produce new and exciting vehicles. They just kept re-hashing the same old formula. Sometimes it's best to just let things just die a natural death.

Unfortunately it wasn't really a natural death, GM tried their sad, tired old formula of badge engineering on Saab and gave us relabeled Subaru's instead of Saabs.

Yeah, and how 'bout that genius idea of a Saab "Trailblazer"; goodness knows every car line in the world MUST have an SUV or six!

Well, it seemed to me that GM, instead of being eager to complete the deal, drug their feet until it was too late! So, hit on them!

Obviously no one in their marketing department knows that you are supposed to sell your turkeys before thanksgiving!

Bet the same thing happens to the Hummer deal.

Funny, I was thinking the same thing about Hummer!
