RVC tach into Bugeye

I just looked at and printed out the process that is required. I think I remember that it was from a site titled MGA Guru. Will check in the morning and let you know what it is.

The article is titled: The MGA With An Attitude. Go to MGAguru.com. It worked for me. Also, John Twist probably has info. posted. And as John quoted, "you have a 50/50 chance of hooking up the white loop wire to the coil wire.

I'm also new to this forum so you'll be seeing many jaw dropping queries in the future.

Do you know someone on here that would be willing to make the pos/neg conversion for a small fee?

just purchased a 58 sprite and pos tach that needs to be converted

Welcome to the board and greetings from up in Durham.

I understand your not wanting to convert this yourself as you probably have a lot of other tasks you want to undertake yourself. Since you are NC and are willing to pay for the conversion service, call the folks up at Nichols Speedometer in Greensboro and see if they won't do this for you. They used to service Smiths and Jaeger gauges and probably still do.

I throw this out as a general question to the Spridget owners. The implication above is that the tach needing polarity conversion is for a '58 Sprite. Wouldn't a '58 Sprite have had a cable driven tach driven off the generator? If so, isn't it likely that the Chazevan's tach is from a later car anyway? Would it be easier or better for him to source a later negative ground RVC type tach than pay to convert this one?

Doug
The only problem is that the Bugeye and all positive ground tachs are 4" diameter and the negative tachs are 3" dia so fitting is the issue.
The conversion of an early tach from positive to negative ground is so simple that it is the preferred method.

Thanks Bill. So what years of Bugeyes used the mechanical tach cable driven from the generator?

Everything up until the 1098 engine (I am fairly sure) so that would be '58 until early '64
All Bugeyes used the 4" tach
