Rust zones

My 69 sprite has a few rusty areas. The worst ones are the front door post where it meets the rocker panels and the front fenders. The other is the rim where the top attaches to the car.

I guess I need to get a wire brush and see just how bad the damage is. How will I fix either problem?

Once you repair the door posts, undercoat the inside of the fender and pay special attention to the lower end.
Now clean and seal the rocker panel with extra care.
The original design of the rockers, door posts, etc were made for a Bugeye where the bonnet lifted up and water came out.
Now with fenders, leaves, mud, tools, and who knows what get lost and trapped down in the lower fender where it meets the door post. Add rain or wash the car and you have rust.
Sealing the part where the water lays is the key.
On the top rim, same deal. good etching primer followed by paint. It's a good idea to remove that plastic cap every couple years and let it dry out under there. Even humidity trapped in there will rust the rim.
