Voightlander is coming out with a 50mm f/1.0 (yes, 1.0!) for the Canon RF mount. It will be manual focus only, but what a beast!

The company that makes Voightlander is Cosina and they are teasing this new lens which is expected to have electrical contacts that will allow for EXIF data to be provided, but it won't do auto focus.

I suppose the advances in lens design has made a difference, CAD would certainly be an advantage but Cosina was not high on the list of quality optics back-when. The IQ would be interesting to know about.

I'm sure there will be a ton of reviews when it hits the streets. If the optics are any good, and the prices is within reason (reason being relative these days) it could be a contender.

The way I see it, the difference between an ∱1.4 and the ∱1.0 in practical terms is moot. With the astronomical ISO levels available in a sensor the expense of the faster glass is a deal killer. Especially if there's already a 50 ∱1.4 manual focus in the bag.

Canon made a 50mm f.95 back in the 60's. I've only seen one in a camera store and that was some 30 years ago.

I have heard of that. Depth of field would be measured with a micrometer!

Knew of those but never saw one that I recall. Even working off-n-on in a couple camera shops. I do recall Rokkor (Minolta) had a 58mm ∱1.2, Takumar (Pentax) had a 50mm ∱1.2 and Zuiko (Olympus) had a 55mm ∱1.2 that I would see sporadically. Only ran film thru the Pentax one tho.

I would imagine those are all museum pieces by comparison now.

The Canon lens works these days with Sony gear. I'm guessing that new FD to R adaptor Basil was talking about may work with it as well. Cruising Ebay they seem to be a tad more expensive than a brand new Voightlander with a warranty.

More re-enforcement WRT your earlier Noct purchase! (y)

And my appreciation over finding that unmolested 90mm Vivitar Series-1 Macro on KEH for really skinny money. Different applications, yeah, but that glass is still superb. A "sleeper" IMHO.
