Hi to the forum,
I looking for a decent Spitfire and like the style of the later models. The big drawback to the 79 and 80, to me, is the black rubber bumpers. Is there a good way to retrofit chrome bumpers to these cars?
Thanks,
Charlie

Hi Charlie. I am not 100% certain of this but I think you can easily put the bumpers from an early '70s Mk4 or 1500 onto the later cars with the rubber bumpers. There might be a minor change required to omit the brackets that the later cars used to attach the rubber bumpers to the frame. You may also have to move the front turn signals from the bumper to the quarter valences. The Mk4s and early 1500s have a pair of bonnet hinge covers that were omitted when the rubber bumpers were introduced. The covers are available from Rimmer Bros. in the U.K. but they are not cheap. When my older son had his accident with the Spitfire I did not replace the covers because I anticipated he might have another accident and break the replacements!

Thanks Doug! I can always count on you for answers.

I received a flyer in the mai recently on the Raleigh spring British Classic on May 18th. Are you planning on attending? It would be to see you again.

Charlie

I may attend this year. I missed last year and have not yet received a flyer for this year. If I do attend this year you know I'll be sure to look for you there!
