Were the Rover CityCars introduced several years ago in the UK ever made in left-hand drive versions or exported to the Continent or to Canada? How many were actually produced by MG-Rover and how were they rated by the British automotive press? Did the company license their production to any other company before the bankruptcy?

Also, was a left-hand drive MGF/TF sports car ever produced or exported? Just curious! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif
 
As for the CityCar, if this is what is known as the CityRover in the UK, it was built in India (by TATA I think) and badge engineered as a Rover. According to press reports to say it was not very good would be being very generous!

anyone know when the MGFs started being sold in Mexico. We can get them in after they are 15 years old. Would be easier and cheaper, I assume, from Mexico than Europe.

The only reason that grey-market was allowed was due to the fact that there were already similar MB and BMW models being imported. Grey-market cars had to meet emissions of US-spec cars, but they could sidestep the bumper requirements (the bumper excemption was eventually stopped).
The MGF has no comparable US model, so the grey-market concept wouldn't apply.
You *might* be able to build a "kit car" from imported parts (just as people build Lotus Sevens using Euro-spec engines). Check the kit cars laws in your home state.
One comment: I've read the European reviews on the MGF (and the new MGTF). Not very favorable. I'm told there are car rental agencies in Mexico that have them available; it might be fun to try one out first.

By the way, Steve mentione the MG/TATA connection. TATA had originally also proposed a "new" MG Midget based on their TATA Aria mechanicals (and built in India). Didn't work out, but it might have been interesting:
