TR2/3/3A Routing of TR3 Temperature Gauge

Does the temperature gauge tube follow along the fuel line or the heater pipe. In the book Original Triumph TR2/3/3 by Piggott, it appears in pictures both ways.
Which way did the factory do the install?

It follows (and is strapped to) the fuel line.
