Routine Maintenance BN1

I have recently aquired some healeys. The one that runs is a 55 BN1.
I am itching to get it out on the road but want to make sure I perform the routine maintenance on it beforehand. It hasn't had any maintenance performed on it in a year. Need to know about oil, filters, fluids, fuel additives, lube, etc.
Thanks for any help!

HI Hawks87, Welcome to the forum.I shall list a set of tasks that I usually perform on an uknown car. Drain, flush and refill the radiator and engine block.Check the Distributor points and regap if required.Change the spark plugs.Check that the brakes are functional. Drain the engine oil install new filter and refill.Drain the Tranny/Overdrive clean screen unit and refill via the tranny filler. Drain the Diff and refill with 80/90 Hypoid . Check front spindles and lube.Check U joints and if they have grease fittings lube them.Check brake canister for adequate fluid and top up with Casterol DOT4 fluid if required.Check Steering box and top up if required with 80/90Hypoid. Oil used in this procedure can be any good high quality 20/50 Motor oil.A good quality Chassis grease will handle the grease fitting points.Others on the forum or me will assist in the questionable areas if you require it. Don't be afraid of asking questions and no additives are required--FWIW---Keoke

Excellent. I would add to that to carry extra fuses and check electrical conections. Check tires for rotting and cracking. (Eventually check wheels for round and balance)And check for steering play. Old bushings can cause excess play. Most important, have fun. Be prepaired for a grin which may never go away!

Just a quick comment on this one ... the car may be set up with silicone brake fluid (Dot 5) which is not compatible with Dot 3 or 4. The silicone fluid I've seen has a purple tint which should help with identification.

Cheers,
John

Thanks for your help tahoe! I already have a grin that makes me look like a fool! My wife just turns and shakes her head. Getting her on the road will change her mind!
